Roof-wetting ceremony of the new visitors' centre in Olkiluoto

17.8.2005

Teollisuuden Voima Oy arranged a roof-wetting ceremony of the new visitors' centre today in Olkiluoto. The planning of the new centre started in the spring of 2004 when it was decided that the training simulator for Olkiluoto 3 would be located in the existing visitors' centre building. The existing centre will be converted into a training unit by the end of the year.

- The visitors' centre and the visitors who use it are part of everyday activities at the power plant. Transparency is one of the values of the Company and accordingly all visitors are welcome in Olkiluoto also in the future. We want to give people a true picture of the operation of a nuclear power plant, based on facts. The new visitors' centre will serve as the window of the power plant toward the society - this is how Managing Director Pertti Simola described the significance of the new centre today at the roof-wetting ceremony in Olkiluoto.

The new visitors' centre, scheduled for completion by the end of the year, is located on the shore of Flutanperä Bay, by the sea. An extensive exhibition on nuclear power, currently under preparation, will be opened at the beginning of 2006. According to Office Manager Mikko Leppälä, the total area of the visitors' centre is more than 1700 square metres, of which the exhibition takes up a major part, about 640 square metres. The centre also contains an auditorium seating 120 people, a cafeteria as well as conference facilities and storage space.
