Here’s how the OL2 generator's rotor replacement went – watch the video
Replacing the generator rotor is no small task, especially when it's done without prior preparations during an unscheduled outage.
Olkiluoto 2's production was halted for 26 days and 20 hours due to a fault detected in the generator. Production could only continue once the generator's rotor had been replaced. And indeed, it was no small task. Especially as it was carried out without any prior preparations, unlike in the annual maintenance outages.
The turbine hall was a hive of activity, with around 35 people working in two shifts to complete the work. In total, the rotor replacement required 20 different types of tasks and 62 individual work phases. On top of that, there were 22 different inspection stages.
In the accompanying video, the entire operation has been condensed into a one-minute highlight.
