COMPANY
The warming of the climate affects both people and nature, all across the world. We at TVO help you heat and light up your home, enjoy the benefits of warm water and take advantage of technology in an environmentally friendly manner. We are also a responsible partner to many municipalities and industrial and energy companies in Finland.
Our nuclear power is domestic electricity production that we keep in stable operation, in all weathers. Together with renewable energy sources, we play a crucial role in the mitigation of climate change.
The largest single climate action in Finland, the Olkiluoto 3 plant unit, has started its operation in Olkiluoto. With regular electricity generation at OL3, about 30% of Finland's electricity comes from Olkiluoto. Nuclear power generation has a positive effect on the self-sufficiency of electricity generation and consequently better security of maintenance.
We are proud to have one of the most powerful nuclear power plant units right here – in Finland. We can boast the expertise and competence required for the development, operation and safety of power plants of such importance.
At Teollisuuden Voima, each and every one of us is important. By relying on our strengths and developing our professional skills, we have learned to master the entire lifecycle of nuclear power – safely from rock to rock.
We conduct our work with professionalism, integrity and a big heart.
We are TVO – the superior operator for climate.
Over 40 years of electricity for Finnish needs
TVO is a limited liability company founded in 1969. The nuclear power plant operated by TVO in Olkiluoto in the municipality of Eurajoki has produced electricity for Finnish consumption for 40 years in autumn 2018. The Olkiluoto 1 and 2 plant units were constructed to satisfy the growing electricity demand of the Finnish energy-intensive industries. Over the past few decades, TVO has developed from an industrial resource to a base load power producer that benefits society as a whole. Today, the Olkiluoto power plant produces approximately 30 percent of Finlands electricity. Through its direct owners, TVO’s nuclear electricity brings well-being to 131 Finnish municipalities. These municipalities are shareholders in more than 50 energy companies that serve as a route for distributing electricity from Olkiluoto throughout Finland. TVO's biggest shareholder is Pohjolan Voima Oy with a 58.5 percent shareholding in TVO.
In addition to the facilities in Olkiluoto, TVO has an office in Helsinki and a branch office in Pori.
The Olkiluoto site also features a 100 MW reserve power plant built as a joint project of Fingrid Oyj and TVO.
