The third best production year ever for Olkiluoto 2 plant unit
2.1.2019
In 2018, total production at the Olkiluoto nuclear power plant of TVO amounted to 14.1 TWh (billion kilowatt hours) which satisfied about one sixth of the total electricity consumption in Finland. The combined load factor of the plant units was 91.1 percent.
At the Olkiluoto 2 plant unit (OL2), production records were very nearly broken despite some unplanned production disruptions. At 7.33 TWh, the production of the plant unit was the third best result ever in the history of the unit. The load factor of OL2 was 94.3 percent.
Olkiluoto1 (OL1) produced 6.76 TWH of electricity, and achieved a load factor of 87.8 percent.
- The lower load factor than the one of the OL2 plant unit was caused by the large-scale modification and repair projects carried out at the OL1 plant unit during the annual outage. The implemented modifications resulted in an increase in the rated output of the plant unit from 880 megawatts to 890 megawatts at the turn of the year, tells Ms. Marjo Mustonen, Senior Vice President, Electricity Production.
Year 2018 was also already the 40th anniversary of stable electricity production in Olkiluoto. In the autumn, the Finnish Government ratified the extension of the operating licences of the OL1 and OL2 plant units until the year 2038, which was an important decision in terms of Finnish self-sufficiency in electricity production and the climate goals.
