Another good production year at Olkiluoto nuclear power plant

2.1.2017

The year 2016 was a good production year for the Olkiluoto nuclear power plant of TVO. With 14.35 TWh (billion kilowatt-hours) of produced electricity, the production result of the power plant as a whole improved over the previous year. The combined load factor of the plant units was 93.0 percent.

Olkiluoto 2 achieved the fourth best production result in the history of the plant unit, with 7.30 TWh. Despite a few disturbances during the year, Olkiluoto 1 also managed to achieve a production result of 7.05 TWh. The replacement of the damaged fuel elements in the spring had somewhat of a negative effect on the result. Regardless of that, the combined production result of the two plant units was the seventh highest in the entire history of Olkiluoto.

The load factor was 94.6 percent for Olkiluoto 2 and 91.4 percent for Olkiluoto 1.

- Apart from a few production disruptions the plant units operated well. Annual outages were also implemented effectively and swiftly, says Mikko Kosonen, Senior Vice President, Production.

The wind power plant in Olkiluoto reached a 0.0013 TWh production volume and a 14.5% load factor, making 2016 the ninth best ever for the plant.

Olkiluoto power plant is maintained according to the principle of continuous improvement and constant upgrading of plant engineering. The plans for the longer than normal annual outage at Olkiluoto 2 next summer, for example, include the replacement of all the recirculation pumps and the condenser.
