​ Posiva Solutions has signed an agreement to deliver services to Fennovoima and is discussing international cooperation with at least five countries.

mikapohjonen_web_rajattu.jpgTo manage its services business, Posiva Oy founded a new subsidiary this June, Posiva Solutions Oy. The new Managing Director, Mika Pohjonen, has been busy meeting potential customers and other stakeholders in Finland and abroad. The company signed its first significant deal with Fennovoima Oy and is in intense discussions on foreign markets.

- Our most important export product is our decades of experience. Holding the world’s first construction license for a final disposal facility for spent nuclear fuel is a kind of a certificate to our know-how.

- If we are able to help another country to go through the same process and cut, for example, ten years off the schedule, they would save a huge amount of money and effort.

What does Posiva sell?

Negotiations about cooperation are ongoing in at least five countries.

- On a more concrete level, we can sell our expertise in, for instance, planning work for site location, site surveys and research, safety and environmental investigations, our ONKALO technical solutions and eventually even the equipment used for final disposal. Also consultancy services for the big picture and assessment of customers’ own plans and reports are of interest.

Each country has its own special characteristics when it comes to underground final disposal. However, many of the learnings with ONKALO can be applied in other countries.

- We can be of the most benefit to customers in those countries which have initiated plans, even preliminary ones, for the final disposal of spent nuclear fuel. These are long projects and there are dozens of phases that could make use of our expertise.
